Description
  • Agano (阿賀野) was the lead ship of the Agano-class cruisers in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II. She was named after the Agano River in Fukushima and Niigata prefectures in Japan.
  • Agano was sunk 15 February 1944 by USS Skate north of Truk.
  • Destroyer Oite (追風) attempted to return to Truk that afternoon with rescued crew from Agano, the destroyer was sunk by torpedoes from Grumman TBF Avengers  (Operation Hailstone), and sank within minutes. All of the Agano crews originally rescued were sunk with Oite.
